Fairview Health Services RN Outpatient Observation in Burnsville, Minnesota
The Outpatient Observation Unit RN at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN cares for adult patients with a wide range of medical needs including but not limited to conditions such as chest pain, back pain, stroke, gastroenteritis, as well as post-surgical patients that have undergone hysterectomy, TURP and heart catheterizations. This 24 bed unit is fast-paced with an average length of patient stay around 27 hours, accommodating Outpatient Observation, Inpatient and Outpatient Surgical patients and is equipped with remote telemetry to closely monitor patients admitted from ED /Surgery. The unit is continuously focused on evaluating processes to improve care and patient flow.
This position is 60 hours in two weeks or .75 FTE, benefit eligible. 12 Night shifts and e/third weekend and holiday rotation
Position reports to Nurse Manager
Managed by Advanced Practice Providers. Nursing care team includes RN and NA/NST on all shifts.
Nurse to patient ratios on the day and evening shifts are 4:1, on the night shift is 6:1
Protocol driven unit serving patients with specific diagnoses both post-surgical and post-procedural including (but not limited to); Chest pain, TIA, syncope, gastroenteritis, renal colic, vertigo, black pain, toxicology exposure, and DVT. Patient care also includes both post-surgical and post-procedural patients.

The registered nurse is responsible for providing patient and family centered nursing care following established standards and practices. The nurse will have an essential role in coordinating care with physicians, care coordinators, patients, and families. The unit is focused on continuously improving processes to improve care and patient flow.
MN RN licensure by start date
BLS for health care providers
Must have some experience working as RN
Training in arrhythmia monitoring and basic EKG interpretation is required or need to train and pass upon hire
Excellent critical thinking skills
Strong communication skills both in person and via phone/emails
Comfortable using computers
Must be able to work in a team environment and delegate
BSN or willingness to obtain in near future
RN work experience in an acute or sub-acute setting
Experience working in an outpatient setting or ER/Tele or PACU
Experience working in a team and delegating
Experience working in a support role (if no experience as an RN) NA, PCA, NST or similar
Familiarity with EPIC
Excellent customer service
Must be adaptable to an ever changing environment and practice on-stage and off-stage behaviors consistently.
Proficient in the English language
Attention to detail
Ability to problem solve effectively
Physical Demands: Standing, walking, reaching above shoulders, reaching waist level, reaching below knee, climbing, lifting above shoulders <10-20 lbs, lifting waist level 35 lbs, lifting below knee 35 lbs, writing, pushing, hearing, squat/kneeling, repetitive actions, keyboarding, speaking, seeing/visual.
