Fairview HealthEast is looking for a Clinical Education Specialis t who is accountable for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of education related to orientation, mandatory/required education, continuing education and professional development for nursing and nursing support staff on ourMed Surg Basedunits within the Fairview/Health East Hospitals.
Position will be homebased out of Fairview Southdale Hospital, which is located in Edina, MN. There will be some need to go to other sites in the metro area as needed. This is a part-time, 48 hours in two weeks, yet Benefit-eligible, Day shift M-F position.
The individual incorporates existing and new practice, quality, safety and regulatory standards into education that aligns with the organization/unit culture and goals.
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates competency based orientation and education programs for new staff.
Provides didactic, experiential and skills based orientation for the specialty.
Reviews and revises competency validation tools in collaboration with advanced practice and operational leaders.
Follows up with new staff to evaluate competency progression
Performs needs assessments, surveys, and gap analyses (annually) to ascertain needs for ongoing education and competency validation.
Participates in unit/department/specialty improvement work, including data collection
Develops annual plan for ongoing competency validation and education.
Collaborates with leaders to acquire and analyze data to develop a plan for competency validation of unit/department/specialty staff.
Develops plan in collaboration with leaders for mandatory, required, continuing and professional development educational offerings.
Partners with organizational team to publish and disseminate education calendar.
Ensures that regulatory requirements related to education and competencies are met.
Develops and implements education.
Utilizes adult learning principles and a creative, innovative approach to education to engage learners.
Collaborates with content experts (e.g. Advanced Practice Nurse Leaders [APNL] and Professional Practice Lead [PPL]) to develop evidence based content.
Develops and oversees in services on new products, policies, procedures and equipment.
Partners with Learning Management System (LMS) team to develop content, product and assignment list.
Facilitates tracking and reporting for leaders of competencies and education.
Ensures that the educational records of staff contain essential regulatory information.
Assists with regulatory body surveys/reviews/visits.
Promotes professional practice development.
Maintains certification in the specialty.
Participates in formalized preceptor development program through teaching, mentoring and coaching.
Supports certification review for the specialty.
Bachelor’s in Nursing Degree
3 or more years of acute care nursing experience
Current MN RN Licensure
Masters or Doctorate in Nursing/Education
6 years of related acute care nursing RN experience
Ortho Med Surg acute care RN experience
Education or educator work experience
Specialty certification in related area
NEC (nurse educator certification) or willingness to obtain in the future
