Our security team has an outstanding reputation for meeting the needs of hospital patients, visitors and staff, offering assistance and providing excellent customer service. They pro-actively work to prevent theft and vandalism and may occasionally be involved in high risk or potentially dangerous situations which require a range of safety precautions.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols designated areas according to established procedures and documents patrols in daily shift reports

  • Documents daily activities in report writing system

  • Provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff

  • Responds to calls for services

  • Assists in the control (often physical) of potentially violent individuals which requires strength, stamina, flexibility and critical thinking

  • Works with potentially unpredictable individuals requiring that teamwork and communication with other security officers

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements

  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required

  • Certified Peace Officer (POST) through the MN Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training preferred

  • Emergency Med Tech Basic (EMT-B) through the MN Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board preferred

  • Two years security, customer service, military experience or Associates degree and one year of security or customer service experience or Bachelor degree in a related field

  • Class D Drivers License required

  • Basic computer knowledge required

  • Must be able to pass MN BCA, FBI and HHS background check

  • Must pass HealthEast background check

  • Must be able to pass FTO, CPR and Use of Force Training

  • Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)

  • Conflict Resolution: Uses appropriate interpersonal skills and techniques to gain acceptance for ideas or solutions

  • Can be both direct and forceful as well as diplomatic; gains trust quickly

  • Patient Safety: Demonstrates practices that support safety with recognition of variations in populations served, preventing harm to patients, families, employees, and themselves

  • Risk Analysis: Utilizing policies, procedures, and practices to minimize or eliminate unacceptable risk; application of qualitative or quantitative techniques to reduce uncertainty of outcomes, liabilities, or losses

  • Safety Testing and Practices: Knowledge and application of safety practices, fire and disaster policies and procedures; safety testing, performance verification, and operations procedures for various types of equipment

  • Security: Knowledge and skills related to precautions and activities that prevent or guard against crime, attack, sabotage, or destruction
