Fairview Health Services Medical Lab Technician - Oakdale Clinic in Oakdale, Minnesota

Overview

Performs designated routine and some complex laboratory procedures, X-Rays, and other procedures as defined by the clinic.

This is a full-time opportunity to work: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri 9-5:30pm and Thu 6:30-3pm (schedule subject to change).

Responsibilities

  • Performs and evaluates diagnostic testing to provide accurate and reliable laboratory results

  • Treats abnormal results according to policies and procedures

  • Completes orders, enters and verifies test results

  • Documents all written data, files or sorts paperwork

  • Completes other clerical functions accurately to ensure accurate test ordering and reporting of patient results

  • Completes routine maintenance, troubleshoots and repair procedures on laboratory instruments to ensure proper operation

  • Completes appropriate documentation

  • Consults with technical support as required

  • Performs specimen collection and processing to ensure the accurate and appropriate performance of patient testing while maintaining patient dignity, comfort and confidentiality

  • Complies with laboratory safety and infection control policies to ensure a safe work environment

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements

  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned

Qualifications

  • Trade or Vocational Certification required.Completion of an MLT/CLT program or equivalent.Must meet CLIA 88 specifications

  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or eligible to sit for exam.Certification must be completed within one year of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required

  • 1 to 2 years clinical laboratory experience performing routine laboratory testing preferred.Additional education may be substituted for up to one year of experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of routine laboratory procedures, techniques and instruments

  • Attention to Detail: Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task

  • Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)

  • Inspection: Critical appraisal skills including examination, measurement, and testing of quality and condition of equipment, materials, or services

  • Interpersonal Communication: Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection

  • Patient Safety: Demonstrates practices that support safety with recognition of variations in populations served, preventing harm to patients, families, employees, and themselves

  • Professional Practice: Demonstrates behavior consistent with the standards, scope of practice, ethics, and characteristics of a licensed professional
