Fairview Health Services Nurse Educator - Hospice in Oakdale, Minnesota


This position is accountable for assessment, initiation, development, implementation and evaluation of education related to orientation, mandatory education, continuing education and professional development in the specialty area. This position is also responsible for assisting in HealthEast wide education as necessary. This position works collaboratively with the specialty CNS and leaders to assess learning needs and develop education plan for meeting the needs.   • Using the nursing process, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates competency based orientation and education programs for the department and HealthEast wide

  • Performs appropriate clinical activities to ensure basic clinical competencies

  • Identifies department education/training needs annually

  • Initiates, develops, implements and evaluates education offerings for mandatory and continuing education

  • Contributes to the design and content of l required or mandatory education

  • Contributes to effective operation of the clinical education department to meet needs and expectations of HealthEast and its customers

  • Assists with assignment, monitoring and evaluation of students involved in clinical affiliations

  • Develops and oversees in-services on new products, policies and procedures

  • Utilizes and leverages content experts to deliver engaging, evidence based educational material

  • Serves as a content expert in the design and delivery of policy and processes/workflow related to patient care initiatives

  • Ensures required educational records are being maintained in partnership with department leadership

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements

  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned


  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Education or related field required or completed within 4 years of hire

  • Registered Nurse MN (RN) through the MN Board of Nursing

  • Specialty certification required or completed within 2 years of hire

  • Critical care/Telemetry: Current BLS & ACLS certification throught the American Heart Association for the health care provider

  • Emergency care: BLS, ACLS, PALS througth the American Heart Association for the health care provider Current TNCC and ENPC certification preferred.

  • Med-surg: BLS through the American Heart Association for the health care provider

  • Surgical services: BLS throught the American Heart Association for the Health care provider, surgery RN course

  • Maternity care: BLS through the American Heart Association for the health care provider, NRP

  • Hospice/Home care: BLS through the American Heart Association for the health care provider

  • Ambulatory care: BLS through the American Heart Association for the health care provider

  • 3 years recent experience in a health care setting, 2 of which are preferred in the specialty area (within the last 5-7 years)

  • Experience in development of eLearning modules and Learning Management Systems preferred

  • Experience as preceptor/clinical educator preferred

  • Knowledge: Current knowledge of the specialty area in which this position is located

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop, implement and evaluate educational offerings to individuals, small and large groups based on principles of adult learning

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards such as OSHA, MDH, Joint Commission and CMS standards as they relate to education and patient care

  • Strong computer skills, including skill in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to Identify issues, obtain relevant information, relate and compare data from different sources, and identify alternative solutions

  • Audio Visual Equipment: Ability to setup and use audiovisual equipment including data projectors, microphones, videotaping, and room audiovisual systems

  • Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)
