Fairview Health Services Lab Customer Service Representative in St. Paul, Minnesota

Overview

Serving as a primary customer contact performing a variety of routine and problem-solving tasks to ensure that client needs are met and that necessary information is obtained to allow the laboratory to complete testing and billing functions promptly and efficiently.

We have three full-time, day/evening opportunities to join our lab team. This includes rotating weekends and holidays. Previous medical experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Registers outpatients for laboratory procedures, completing laboratory requisitions and computer entry

  • Performs routine office procedures such as maintains files, communicates with customer to obtain billing information, sorts and distributes mail, assists with data entry, and registers outpatients for laboratory procedures

  • Communicates information to staff and customers as needed

  • Performs specimen collection to ensure the accurate and appropriate performance of patient testing while maintaining patient dignity, comfort and confidentiality

  • Performs specimen processing to ensure the accurate and appropriate performance of patient testing/MA

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards

  • Complies and promotes laboratory safety and infection control policies to ensure a safe work environment

  • Reviews, follows and understands established laboratory quality assurance and quality control procedures

  • Participates in the overall operations of the section(s) and department

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements

  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • CMA/MA preferred

  • 1 year customer service experience in a health care setting preferred, phlebotomy training preferred

  • Attention to Detail: Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task

  • Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)

  • Coordination: Integration of activities, structures, and responsibilities so that resources are used most effectively to meet objectives

  • Interpersonal Communication: Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection

  • Office Skills: Knowledge and application of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology

  • Written Communication: Ability to organize and express information and ideas in written form to individuals as well as groups

  • Construct messages that are clear and convincing
