Fairview Health Services Psychology Intern in St. Paul, Minnesota
Under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist and/or Social Worker, conducts initial and follow-up psychological, including cognitive, evaluations of patients referred for psychological services. Independently plans, organizes, implements and documents psychological interventions based on the results of psychological evaluations and in conjunction with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations and policies, procedures and standards.
Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements to achieve clinical, satisfaction and/or efficiency outcomes.
Performs inpatient and outpatient consultations including chart review, assessment of cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and psychological aspects of the patient's needs and establishes appropriate goals for treatment with the patients, provides appropriate treatment, and reviews progress toward these goals.
Develops liaison relationships with referring providers and participates in the programs of that specialty area, including collaborative rounding and multidisciplinary team meetings.
Under supervision, supervises and trains Practicum students. Regularly attends and participates in the Psychology Training Committee.
Actively participates in the quality improvement process.
Actively participates in utilization review performance improvement.
Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree required. Doctoral student with a BA, MA, and/or MS in an APA-accredited Clinical or Counseling Psychology program.
All coursework required for the doctoral degree must be completed prior to the start of the internship year, as well as any qualifying, comprehensive, or preliminary doctoral examinations.
Approval for Internship status by graduate program training director.
A minimum of 250 direct intervention and 50 direct assessment hours of supervised graduate level pre-internship practicum experience.
Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (use a mouse, navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc).
Counseling: Ability to provide counseling on an individual and group basis to achieve individual service plan goals. Ability to resolve issues. Ability to use interpersonal skills and methods to reduce or eliminate conflict.
Evidence Based Practice: Evaluates and/or assists in the evaluation of practice in relation to existing evidence identifying opportunities for the generation and use of research
Interpersonal Communication: Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection.
Multi-Cultural Communication: Ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures. Cultural competence comprises four components: (a) Awareness of one's own cultural worldview, (b) Attitude towards cultural differences, (c) Knowledge of different cultural practices and worldviews, and (d) cross-cultural skills.
Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; utilizes appropriate tools and staff resources along with sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Professional Practice: Demonstrates behavior consistent with the standards, scope of practice, ethics, and characteristics of a licensed professional.
