Fairview Health Services Speech Pathologist - Bethesda (Part-Time Days with Benefits) in St. Paul, Minnesota

Overview

Evaluates, plans and implements treatment programs to ensure maximum patient outcomes. Involves patient and family in goal setting and completes timely documentation. Consults with referring practitioner as needed and remains current on treatment techniques.

This is primarily an Inpatient role at Bethesda but this person will be trained to float to the other acute sites. The schedule will consist of approximately 1 out of every 4 weekends and include approximately 3 holidays per year (schedule subject to change). We are open to filling this with a strong CFY candidate or new grad.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and establishes the diagnosis of speech/language disorders and prognosis.Select, plan and coordinate speech and language rehabilitation that is individualized to the patient, reflects the evaluation findings and is prioritized based on input from patient, family and team

  • Maintains compliance with professional standards and performs treatment procedures that adhere to standards of practice of ASHA

  • Coordinates/supervises clinical education program and volunteers.Participates in ongoing professional development.Maintains and upgrades clinical skills through participation in in-service training, seminars, conferences, etc

  • Applies knowledge of therapeutic techniques during the evaluation and throughout the course of treatment and adjusts the treatment plan regularly and appropriately as patient status changes

  • Provides educational materials and methods appropriate to the patient and includes family/caregiver in education and training as needed

  • Consults with referring practitioner and other team members to ensure quality care and treatments are provided to the patient

  • Completes documentation that reflects patients' response to treatment, actual performance, and assessment relevant to the treatment plan and eventual discharge needs

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements

  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in speech pathology from a university or college program accredited in speech pathology from the AmericanSpeech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), or a university or college program whose Speech Pathology Chairperson orSupervisor is ASHA certified in speech pathology

  • Licensed Speech Language Pathologist through the MN Department of Health

  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Minimum of 260 hours of supervised practicum experience in speech pathology from the training institution granting the Master's Degree

  • 1-3 years related job experience preferred

  • Assessment, Planning, Evaluation: Collects and analyzes pertinent data and/or clinical findings.Incorporates clinical findings and scientific evidence in the development, coordination and implementation of an individualized plan of care to achieve desired outcomes.Evaluates progress towards goals and outcomes identifying opportunities for improvement and change

  • Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)

  • Patient Care Delivery: Observes and collects pertinent data and/or clinical findings to enhance patient outcomes

  • Patient Education: Provides patient educational information appropriate to the developmental level, learning needs, readiness, cultural values, and beliefs of patients and families

  • Patient Safety: Demonstrates practices that support safety with recognition of variations in populations served, preventing harm to patients, families, employees, and themselves

  • Professional Practice: Demonstrates behavior consistent with the standards, scope of practice, ethics, and characteristics of a licensed professional

  • Treatment Planning: Identifies expected outcomes and develops individualized treatment plan of care
