Overview

Ensure the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients to their destination.

Responsibilities/Job Description

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements

  • Performs delegated patient care duties. Ensures the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients to their destination including bringing the proper requested equipment

  • Communicates accurately and effectively with patient/family and health care team members. Notifies nursing staff technician or reception upon arrival for patient. Reinforces patient education as directed by nursing staff

  • Completes proper phone and pager handling; ensures proper functioning of pager at all times. Responds to all transport requests with a sense of urgency. Alerts nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction

  • Utilizes wheelchairs and other approved rolling stock to carry out the essential duties of the position. Demonstrates safe practice in the use of equipment. Keeps equipment cleaned and stored per department policy

  • Accesses medications or IV solutions only as required to perform normal job duties. Understands the security requirements of medications and IV solutions

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Transport or hospital experience preferred

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic patient transport concepts, infection control practices, and proper body mechanics

  • Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)

  • Interpersonal Communication: Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection

  • Patient Safety: Demonstrates practices that support safety with recognition of variations in populations served, preventing harm to patients, families, employees, and themselves
