Job Description:

The Pharmacy Technician/Student in the Pharmacist Development Program is responsible for providing customer service, preparing and dispensing medications and supplies, processing inpatient orders in the pharmacy information system(s), stocking medications and supplies, and assisting the pharmacist as required both centrally and de-centrally.

The Pharmacist Development Program provides pharmacy students the opportunity to work at a large academic medical center where they learn the operations of a hospital pharmacy and build their clinical knowledge. Throughout this program, the student will work closely with pharmacist mentors that will assist in the student's development. The first year will be dedicated to medication preparation and distribution. Once a second-year pharmacy intern, they will receive increased exposure to decentral activities and clinical activities.

Schedule:every other weekend; one evening every other 2 weeks minimum

Job Qualifications:


Minimum Education: Enrolled as a 2nd Year Student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus beginning Fall of 2018.

Minimum Licensure Requirements: Applicant should have current or pending Pharmacy Technician registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.


Preferred Experience: Previous pharmacy or medical experience

Additional Requirements:

Applicant should have excellent customer service skills, be proficient in the English language, have good attention to detail, ability to problem solve effectively, ability to follow policies and procedures, basic math skills, basic typing skills and excellent communication skills.

Physical demands: sitting, standing, walking, push/pull, carrying, balance, stooping/crouching, grasping with right and left hand, finger dexterity, reaching below and above shoulders, reaching across, rotation standing, bending at waist above 45 degrees. Talking in person, on the phone, with public. Hearing in person, on the phone. Boxes of supplies; if handling UPS boxes, may weigh 40lbs. Physical environment: noise, infectious disease, moving machinery, fumes/gases, human tissue/fluids, chemicals, biohazard material. Mental demands: freq people contact, irregular work schedule, detailed work, freq interruptions, decision making skills, concentration required, work independently, multitask, freq deadlines, organizational skills, work with others.
