Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Integration Project Management for Supply Chain, this position serves as a project manager for clinical purchased services, facilitating/leading product/service selection and non-labor cost reduction teams with a focus on clinical effectiveness by using a criteria-driven process along with standardization, utilization, and pricing cost reduction strategies. Performs research, benchmarking, and develops tools, graphics and presentations to assist the team in understanding methods and processes required to achieve measurable results. Works with customers to understand product/service consumption patterns and product/service utilization to determine that the right product/service is used for the right application. Analyzes use patterns to identify best practice in terms of quality and cost to optimize patient care. This position is responsible for working with end users to understand consumption/utilization patterns to identify best practice for transference to other users and departments.

This position reports to the Director of Clinical Integration Project Management.

Job Qualifications:

  • Analyzes research, benchmarking, best practices and other data to identity potential risks and benefits associated with current and proposed products related to Supply Chain Improvement Initiatives.

  • Identifies customer/patient needs and potential cost savings initiatives

o Determines complexity of projects and potential conversions

  • Manages all aspects of multiple supply chain projects simultaneously.

  • Clarifies customer needs

  • Works with the Core Team, contracting and value analysis teams to coordinate projects, improve cycle time, achieve goals

o Provides coordination and direction for all phases of projects

  • Facilitates/leads system-wide product/service selection and non-labor cost reduction teams (representing all hospital sites and needed medical groups) and task teams.

  • Drives innovation, creativity and change

  • Promotes the criteria-driven pro duct selection and specification model, focusing on clinical effectiveness, safety, outcomes

· Facilitates decisions to promote standardization, utilization, and cost reduction strategies, while maintaining clinical effectiveness

  • Develops tools, graphics and presentations to assist the team in understanding methods and processes to achieve measurable results.

o Performs research, benchmarking as needed

  • Provides customer service and support for supply problems and unmet needs.

  • Addresses concerns regarding defective products

  • Troubleshoots cause of problem and identifies potential solutions.

  • Collaborates with end users, manufacturers, department managers, materials management, and Value Analysis teams to address, report, and assist in resolution.

  • Provides clinical expertise to Supply Chain staff

Reviews database of complaints

  • Implements product/service conversions and new product/service introductions in collaboration with corporate and site materials, customers and vendors.

  • Develop system-wide plan for product/service conversions, including vendor relations, education needs, inventory changes

  • Anticipates and plans for unexpected clinical or logistical problems during conversions

  • Works with the site implementation teams to assure a smooth hand off for implementation of team decisions.

o Provides support as needed to facilitate product conversions.

· Establishes and maintains effective communication channels with key customer groups.

  • Acts as a “listening post” to identify improvement opportunities for clinical effectiveness/cost reduction projects.

o Communicates progress of current projects to customer groups.

· Meets the needs of patients and family members of all ages, and plans for cultural or disease-related differences during product selection processes

Minimum Qualifications to Fulfill Job Responsibilities:


Education: Education

Undergraduate degree in business or health related field or 4 years relevant work experience


5 years of clinical experience in a critical care setting and 2 – 3 years of experience in Materials Management or project management and team facilitation.



BS or BA in Nursing or other clinical professional education (i.e. Respiratory Therapist, CRNA).


8 years of clinical experience in a critical care setting and 4 – 5 years of experience in Materials Management or project management and team facilitation.
