This position has the responsibility of performing routine and specialized procedures in the Histopathology Laboratory. Although specialized procedures may be performed by this position, the emphasis is on routine procedures.
Histology Technician (HT) performs all work processes necessary for the production of microscopic preparations used for high complexity testing as defined by CLIA'88. The HT possesses working knowledge of the pathology laboratory performs routine and specialty procedures, recognizes problems, identifies basic causes, and makes corrections using established protocols. The HT correlates data based on knowledge of technical and instrumental conditions affecting diagnostic test results and performs quality control procedures within established parameters. The HT collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction. The HT works independently under general supervision.
AMA approved histology technical program or 2 years college with emphasis on biological sciences and 1 year experience in histologic techniques is required. HT (ASCP) certification or eligible (completion within 1 year) is required. No experience necessary if completed AMA histology program. One to two years experience required if 2 years of college, but no formal training program.
