Our Cytogenetics Laboratory, located on the University of Minnesota, East Bank Campus performs; Constitutional & Hematologic Chromosome analysis, FISH and CGH Microarray testing. The laboratory plays an important role in diagnosis of genetic disorders and in differential diagnosis of cancer subtypes. Our laboratory coordinates G-band, FISH, and CGH Microarray testing to provide exceptional patient care.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) position in the Cytogenetics Laboratory offers an opportunity to train in various sections within the laboratory, and may include any of the following:
Perform complex laboratory testing according to established procedures in an accurate, reliable & timely manner.
Obtain competency in the following areas depending on the needs of the laboratory; hematologic G-band analysis, constitutional G-band analysis, FISH processing, FISH analysis, CGH processing, CGH analysis & tissue culture.
Perform QC & proficiency testing according to established CAP requirements.
Participates in patient safety, single piece flow, error prevention & consistently provide quality testing results.
Investigate & troubleshoot technical issues.
Monday-Friday, 9:30am-6:00pm, rotating weekends and Holidays.
Bachelor Degree in Genetics, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or a related science degree.
FISH experience strongly preferred.
ASCP certification as a Technologist in Cytogenetics, MLS, Cytotechnologist or a Technologist in Molecular Genetics, is strongly preferred.
Candidates must possess or be eligible to sit for and obtain their certification as a Cytogenetic Specialist or in Molecular Genetics within 2 years from hire.
Cytogenetics and Cytology experience preferred.
