Cytogenetics position: Cytogenetics
Our Cytogenetics Laboratory located on the University of Minnesota, East bank campus performs constitutional & Hematologic chromosome analysis, FISH and Microarray testing. The laboratory plays an important role in diagnosis of genetic disorders and in differential diagnosis of cancer subtypes. Our laboratory coordinates G-band, FISH, and Microarray testing to provide exceptional patient care.
The full time Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) position in the Cytogenetics Laboratory will perform complex laboratory testing according to established procedures in an accurate and reliable manner. This position is in a clinical laboratory focused on patient care. Testing may include:
Chromosome Analysis: may include tissue culture and chromosome preparation &/or microscope analysis and karyotyping of G-banded cells.
FISH: FISH set up and FISH analysis & QC of new reagents.
Microarrays: DNA isolation and quantification, DNA restriction enzyme digestion, DNA labeling and processing of microarrays, and analysis of microarray
Training will be provided, experience is preferred.
M-F 9:30am-6pm every 3rd weekend and rotating holiday.
Bachelor degree in Genetics, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or a related science degree.
GBand experience is preferred.
ASCP certification in Cytogenetics is strongly preferred.
Candidates must possess or be eligible to sit for and obtain their certification as a Cytogenetic Specialist or in Molecular Genetics within 2 years from hire.
