Job Description:

Provides nursing services via the telephone to adult and pediatric patients scheduled for elective surgical procedures. Provides information and education to patients and/or their families scheduled for elective surgical procedures prior to their entry to UMMC/UMMCH. The RN assesses, plans and implements a care plan focusing on the individual needs of patients of all ages and cultural backgrounds. The RN collects patient information and coordinates the plan of care with physicians, outside clinics/agencies and internal departments. The RN is responsible for performing these activities in accordance with all policy, procedural and professional practice guidelines.

Job Qualifications:

MN RN licensure required. BSN desired.

Minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in perianesthesia nursing, with proficiency in assessing the physical and psychosocial needs of a culturally diverse patient population.

Ability to exercise professional judgment. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Computer knowledge and skills required.
