Job Description:

Physicians send their most frail, most medically complicated patients to Bethesda Hospital when they need to ensure an ongoing hospital level of care and a continuum of specialized services under one roof. Patients must have clinical needs requiring prolonged hospitalization (usually 25-plus days), daily physician and specialist/intensivist involvement, and interdisciplinary support from a broad team of professionals and multiple therapy disciplines, such as physical, occupational, speech, healing arts, pet, virtual and recreation.

  • Respiratory Care for those with severe respiratory failure or chronic respiratory distress, including patients who have been unable to be weaned from a ventilator or trach at another hospital;

  • Complex Medical Care, helping patients suffering complications from organ transplants, multi-system failure and advanced wounds; and

  • Brain Injury Services, the first program of its kind in Minnesota with a focus on improving patients' cognitive and functional skills while reducing emotional and behavioral difficulties so patients can be successfully integrated back into the community.

The complex medical unit at Bethesda Hospital is a 13 bed unit that will take every kind of patient other than telemetry. Patients might have trach in place for O2 needs, frequent suctioning, and ventilator weaning. You will see respiratory patients as part of diagnosis like laryngectomies and a lot of protocols like electrolyte monitoring and replacement therapy. Also you will see patients that have had transplants and medications secondary to transplants they received.

Position Competencies:

Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing

At least 1 year of RN experience.

Associate's degree in Nursing required. BSN/BAN degree preferred

Valid license to practice registered nursing in Minnesota through the Minnesota Board of Nursing

Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers

1 - 3 years' experience preferred
