The Peds Sedation RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned pediatric patients undergoing minor procedures or imaging studies requiring anesthesia in the Pediatric Sedation Unit. Assists with patient procedural prep and recovery, intra-procedure support and general unit operations. Utilizes pediatric knowledge of physiological status and developmental stages to provide the patient and family with procedure-related education and support and includes the family in the care of the patient.
Manages medication and infusion therapy for pediatric patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia. Promptly identifies and responds to potential and emergent situations. Performs advanced pediatric monitoring and interventions, including advanced respiratory and CV support. Collaborates with MDs, RNs, Advanced Practice Providers, schedulers, and inpatient staff to coordinate the care of the patient in a fast-paced environment. The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure, and professional practice guidelines. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 35 lbs, push/pull up to 45 lbs, carrying up to 35 lbs, balance, stooping/crouching, grasping, finger dexterity, reaching above/below shoulders, reaching across, bending at waist >45 degrees.
Physical Environment: Noise, Infectious Disease, Moving Machinery, Vibration, Human Tissue/fluids, Chemicals, Biohazard Material.
Mental Demands: Frequent people contact, irregular work schedule, detailed work, frequent interruptions, decision making skills, concentration, ability to work independently, multitasking, organizational skills, working with others and frequent deadlines.
MN RN License. BSN preferred.
A minimum of two years current RN experience in pediatric critical care or hospital-based PACU is required. Pediatric PACU experience preferred.
NICU-only RN experience is not applicable to pediatric critical care requirement.
BLS is required. Prefer PALS certification. Certification in a related specialty is highly desired.
