The Progressive ICU at the University of Minnesota Medical Center is a progressive critical care unit serving a patient population 18 years and older with moderate or potentially severe physiologic instability requiring frequent nursing assessment and intervention every 1 to 2 hours for the majority of the shift. This patient population requires less care than the other ICUs at the University Hospital, but more care than a general medical surgical unit. The majority of patients require cardiac monitoring. Common patient populations include post kidney/pancreas transplants, patients admitted with respiratory failure, sepsis, cardiac complications, to name a few diagnoses. The nurse patient ratio is a mix of 1:2 and 1:3 on all shifts. Bed capacity is 31.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
Physical demands: Sitting, standing, walking, lifting-max 35lbs, push/pull-max. 35 lbs, balance, stooping/crouching, grasping, writing, finger dexterity/keyboarding, reaching, color vision, operate machinery, physical presence at work.

New Grads will be considered. Associates Degree required; BSN preferred. BLS required
MN RN licensure required; A minimum of one year current medical surgical RN experience in a Hospital setting is preferred. One year Emergency Department, pediatric or adult critical care experience is preferred. Certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nursing or in a related specialty is highly preferred.
