Job Description:

As a member of the care team, the Transplant MA supports quality patient- and family-centered care principles through performing a variety of high level functions within a care team to support the needs of the healthcare team and patients/families. The Transplant Office MA will assist the Transplant Coordinator in all activities related to patient care. The MA will communicate closely with the Coordinator to provide a continuum of care for the patient.

Job expectations to include but not limited to:

Answers & assists with returning patient calls as directed by coordinator. Returns calls as instructed by coordinator.

Facilitates referral to evaluation process in partnership with Transplant Coordinator

Fields all new referral calls

Requests and sorts medical records needed for transplant evaluation

Educates patient on the referral and evaluation process

Partners with patient financial representative and transplant nurse coordinator to ensure financial approval for evaluation

Processes prescription refill calls as instructed by the coordinator.

Works in conjunction with transplant schedulers, transplant administrative staff and coordinator. Obtains results of evaluation for coordinator review.

Assists with preparation of necessary paperwork for transplant candidate and potential living donor patient presentation to committee

Prepares letters to referring physicians regarding committee results. Prepares records for insurance companies for financial clearance.

Assist in working with schedulers for any other testing as requested by coordinator.

Obtains results for coordinator review.

Prepares for clinic. Includes obtaining results, updating electronic flow sheets as necessary.

Assists with maintenance of patient electronic files. Processes and maintains records sent to storage.

Performs other duties as assigned in their scope of practice under the direction of the transplant coordinator

Processes prescription refill calls as instructed by the coordinator

Assists with coordination of post-transplant care including scheduling routine visits and testing per post-transplant protocols and communication with patients.

Prepares itineraries for post-transplant protocol testing and appointments and sends to patient.

Job Qualifications:

Required

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Medical assistant program

Experience:

5 years relevant healthcare experience

License/Certification/Registration:

Current certification by the AAMA

Current BLS certification

Preferred

Experience:

1 year experience in an ambulatory setting
