At the direction of Sr. Management, The Senior Consultant for Patient Safety in the Quality Department leads investigations of complex quality and patient safety events in order to maximize learning, prevent recurrence, and mitigate preventable patient and healthcare worker harm. Additionally, the Senior Consultant for Patient Safety leads strategic preventative and performance improvement projects associated to patient safety and quality issues to improve care processes, advance the organization's culture of safety, and capture and spread patient safety best practices.
This individual will use industry tools and resources to identify and initiate evaluation and redesign of systems to prevent future errors; identify necessary resources to support patient safety program implementation; collaborate with facility leaders to implement corrective actions and act on any resource barriers; apply principles of reliable design to ensure delivery of evidence-based care and reduction in preventable harm; develop process/performance improvement plans; and lead implementation teams to bring projects to completion. The performance projects for which this individual has responsibility will often be cross-departmental, cross-functional and complex in nature. It is also expected that this individual has a strong working knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting the development of safety and quality implementation strategies (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission, MN Department of Health, HIPAA, etc.). Since this individual is expected to be sophisticated in project management and performance improvement methodologies, it is also expected that this individual will provide coaching to less experienced consultants as well as be involved with additional program needs as assigned.
Bachelors Degree or experience equivalent
Five years healthcare experience
Quality/Patient Safety experience
Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), and/or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Healthcare Administration or other related field
Bachelors degree in Nursing or other clinical degree; if Clinical, current MN clinical licensure in good standing and at least five years clinical experience
Demonstrates skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and the Web
Detail orientated and possess strong critical thinking and decision making skills
Associate Level clinician may be considered with relevant quality experience
